Significance
The Memorial is "In Memory of the Employees of the Ferreira Deep Ltd who made the Supreme Sacrifice in The Great War 1914-1918." This is repeated in Afrikaans on another panel.
Ferreira's was one of the first mines established after the 1886 discovery of gold. Known as the birthplace of Joburg's gold rush, Ferreira's Camp grew into the earliest settlement of Johannesburg, with the city developing outward from here.
