Significance
George Farrar was a member Johannesburg Reform Committee and implicated in the events leading to the Jameson Raid in 1896.
He was awarded the DSO for service as an intelligence officer in the Kaffrarian Rifles in the Anglo-Boer War 1899-1902.
In WW 1, he was responsible for restoring the railway and water supply during the South African invasion of German South West Africa via Luderitz.

He was killed in a rail accident in the operational area in May 1915.
