Significance
The War Memorial records the Rolls of Honour of officers and men of the South African Railways and Harbours in East London who gave their lives in either The Great War of 1914 to 1918 or in the World War of 1939 to 1945. The inscription for the Great War is in English and Dutch and for the 2nd World War in English and Afrikaans.
