REMINDER NOTICE DURBAN BRANCH JULY GET-TOGETHER

LECTURE : "PRINCIPLES AND PERSONALITIES IN MILITARY MEDICINE"

SPEAKER : Fellow-member DR JOHN BUCHAN

DATE : Thursday 10th July 1980,

TIME : 8 p.m.

VENUE : The Lecture Room, 'SB' Bourquin Building, (the Port Natal Administration Board's head office) on the corner of Jan Smuts Highway and Buro Crescent, Mayville.

REFRESHMENTS : Glasses and ice will be supplied so please bring your own bottled or canned refreshments.

FRIENDS AND INTERESTED PERSONS ARE WELCOME TO COME ALONG.


FIELD EXCURSION

As indicated in the April/May news-sheet it is the intention to visit GREYTOWN and the surrounding area over the weekend 12TH AND 13TH JULY 1980.

PROGRAMME

Saturday 12th July :

09h30 RENDEZVOUS at Greytown Museum (well sign-posted on entering Greytown). Greytown is approx. 2 hours drive from Durban. TEA, VISIT MUSEUM

11h00 Proceed to FORT LIDDLE, discussion and exploration

12h30 PICNIC LUNCH (Please bring your own picnic lunches and refreshments).

13h30 Depart for MPANZA, discussion on the BAMBATHA REBELLION and action at Mpanza.

l5h00 Proceed to MUDEN via Keate's Drift, visit RÖTTCHER'S SONNENGOLD ORANGE WINERIES.

17h00 Return to Greytown.

20h30 After dinner TALK by MRS. GORDON, Curator of the Greytown Museum, at the Umvoti/Plough Hotel (same complex) on the HISTORY OP GREYTOWN.

Sunday 13th July :

09h30 RENDEZVOUS at Greytown Museum. Proceed to FORT AHRENS, WOLF TRAP FORT, FORT CHERRY, FORT BUCKINGHAM and THE HOP, KRANSKOP. PICNIC LUNCH near Fort Buckingham.

14h30 Return to Durban via Stanger, visiting FORT CROSS (time permitting) en route.

FRIENDS, RELATIVES AND INTERESTED PERSONS ARE MOST WELCOME TO JOIN THIS TOUR.

Details :

Those attending require the following

1. WALKING SHOES. A fair amount of walking will be undertaken.

2. WARM CLOTHES. Greytown can become very chilly in July.

3. PLEASE MAKE YOUR OWN ACCOMMODATION ARRANGEMENTS IN GOOD TIME.
The two hotels (UMVOTI/PLOUGH) in Greytown are jointly-owned and administered.
Tariffs are : R11,00 per person, bed and breakfast, double with bath
R12,30 per person, bed and breakfast, single with bath
R10,00 per person, bed and breakfast, double without bath

Dinner is a la carte. The hotel requires R10,00 deposit and booking in writing. Children under 8 yrs - half price. Infants - no charge. TELEPHONE (03342) 728.

Accommodation is also available at LAKE MERTHLEY, Telephone (03342) 21. Prior booking is necessary.

1 large cottage (6 people) R5,20 per night.
2 small cottages (4 people in each) R4,16 per night.
Visitors must take their own linen, blankets, food, cutlery, cooking utensils, etc, Beds, mattresses, chairs, open fireplace, gas-lamps and ablution facilities are provided.

CAMPING GROUNDS : Caravan sites R1,30 per night,
Tent sites R1,04 per night.

Booking not necessary - just arrive.
